Ponte off and running, Chapel A return
01 Oct 2026

Pontefract 1 made an ominously strong start to their Yorkshire Premier League title defence, while Chapel Allerton also impressed on their return to the top tier and there were celebrations at Queens.

Pontefract 1, seeking a third straight title and a seventh overall, began the new campaign with an in-house skirmish against Pontefract 2.

Three-time club champion Adam Taylor defeated newly-crowned Yorkshire junior champion Adam Smith in three, while Tom Bamford rebounded from losing the first six points to conquer James Wilkinson, also in straight games.

Matt Godson was given a few scares by 16-year-old Noah Riley before sealing a 3/1 win which secured the victory for the firsts.

Eljah Thomas gained three consolation points for Ponte 2 by defeating the firsts' new signing, Aussie David Turner, but Scot Rory Richmond put the seal on Ponte 1's 17-4 victory with a dominant top-string win over New Zealander Lwamba Chileshe, who has recently retired from the PSA Tour.

In north Leeds, there was a packed house to greet Chapel Allerton's return to the Premier League after a three-season absence.

Lower order duo Sanath Sha and home-grown favourite Isaac Green kickstarted proceedings with straight-games wins over Dunnington's stand-in no.5 Darren Mould and skilful veteran Taminder Gata-Aura respectively.

Jamie Brown reduced arrears for Dunnington but Chapel A's no.2 Brad Fullick, who was straight off the plane that morning from his native Australia, heroically downed Pakistani Amaad Fareed in five highly entertaining games.

That sealed the five bonus points for the hosts, before new signing Abdullah Eissa immediately endeared himself to the home faithful with a spectacular smashed rolling nick winner in the opening rally against Dunnington's Owain Taylor, which lasted almost two minutes.

Eissa's many flicks and tricks were resisted by Welshman Taylor, however, who won in a sizzling four games, reducing the hosts' victory margin to 16-8.

There was also a celebratory mood at Queens in Halifax for the team's first home game since the club re-opened following a devastating fire in April 2025.

Wales international Lowri Roberts started the party with a five-game win over Oscar Hill at fifth string, although visitors Cleethorpes levelled through Louie Truman at no.4.

However, James Earles and Jordan Hardwick both secured wins to gurantee the five winning bonus points for Queens. The top string match was a cracker between former England international George Parker and Nick Wall which the latter won in five to reduce the arrears to 16-9.

Wall's former club Hallamshire were the other victors on the opening night in a see-saw 15-8 victory at Ferriby Hall in Humberside.

Jack Cornell and Adam Turner were straight-games winners for the Sheffield club with Yusef Forster keeping the match alive with a four-game win for the hosts over Alex Cutts.

Kiwi Temwa Chileshe ground down Ed Bidder in five games at second string to clinch the points for the visitors, although Ben Smith claimed three consolation points at top string for Ferriby by thrashing Charles Keeble.
