Ponte looking four-midable already
22 Oct 2026

The Yorkshire Premier League title race already has a familiar look to it as Pontefract 1 top the table with a 100% record after four rounds.

The West Yorkshire squash institution, champions of the last two seasons, have made the perfect start in their bid for a hat-trick, winning 19-6 at winless Ferriby Hall on Wednesday night.

First up, Adam Taylor met highly spirited resistance from recenty-crowned European women's racketball champion Fiona Moverley before closing out victory 11/5 in the fifth. Neil Cordell found things a little easier against Ferriby's no.4 Yusef Foster.

Scot Rory Richmond, just returned from the European U23 Cup where he finished fourth, beat Ed Bidder in three to seal the victory for Ponte. Aussie David Turner added gloss with a four-game win over Ben Sockett. In the top-string tussle, Ferriby got a win on the board as Ben Smith defeated former Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Rory Stewart in five.

Hallamshire are keeping Ponte 1 on their toes, recording a 17-3 home win over Harrogate on Wednesday to sit 11 points off the leaders in joint second with Queens.

Victory was secured in the blink of an eye, with Richard Hinds, Adam Turner and Kiwi Temwa Chileshe clean-sweeping the lower order in straight games.

Former England international Chris Simpson returned fire with a straight-games victory for Harrogate over Charles Keeble at no.2, but Welshman Elliot Morris Devred was ruthless for Hallamshire at top string, wiping out Hugo Lafuente Jaen in three.

Queens breezed to victory at a Chapel Allerton side weakened by the late withdrawal of top string Abdallah Eissa due to flu.

Queens stalwart Danny Bray beat home skipper James Butterworth in five, Cordy Harding conquered Sanath Sha in three and Jordan Hardwick got the better of Isaac Green in four.

That was the victory wrapped up for the Halifax visitors, but veteran James Earles turned the screw with victory at no.2 string and ex-England international George Parker capped the evening with a five-game thriller over Chapel A's Aussie no.1 Brad Fullick to complete Queens' 20-6 win.

Dunnington, who've played a game fewer than the top three, sit fourth after this week's 17-6 home triumph over seventh-placed Cleethorpes.

Charlie Jubbs and Oscar Hill started the night promisingly for the visitors with lower-order victories, but the momentum swung the other way for the rest of the evening.

Jamie Brown, Amaad Fareed and Welsh top string Owain Taylor all rampaged to 3/0 victories for the York hosts.
